Making GABA Tea

There are several ways to make GABA tea

GABA tea is easy to prepare. There are several methods that can be used, and the method that is best for you will depend on your tastes and habits.

No matter which way you prepare it, you need about 5 grams of GABA tea leaves. This is equivilant to a heaping teaspoon and is enough to make several cups of tea - a days worth of tea for one person.

Brewing in Quantity

Many people find it convenient to prepare enough tea to last them through the day. Simply take 5 grams of GABA tea leaves and add about 3 or 4 cups of hot water. Let the tea sit for about 5 minutes and strain the tea to separate the leaves.

The tea can be kept warm in a thermos or can be chilled. Iced GABA tea is particularly refreshing in the summer time, so you may want to keep a pitcher of it in your fridge.

Brewing by the Cup

Alternatively, GABA tea can be brewed in small quantities - a cup at a time. The trick to this method is to pour off the tea after a relatively short period of time so that the leaves can be re-used for later brewings. This is similar to the Gung Fu method of brewing oolong tea.

Measure 5 grams (a heaping teaspoon) of tea a place it in a mug or small tea pot. The first brewing should be quite short - perhaps 30 - 45 seconds. After this time, pour the tea off the leaves through a strainer so that the leaves can be saved and used again. Each subsequent brewing time can be extended by about 30 seconds, so that the third brewing will be about 1 1/2 or 2 minutes.

Cold Water Brewing

GABA tea can also be made by placing about 5 grams (a heaping teaspoon) into about 4 or 5 cups of cold water. Let the water sit for about 30 minutes to an hour, after which the tea can be drunk. Let the tea leaves stay in the water while you drink the tea - simply strain the tea as you pour it.

This last method is convenient for people on the go. Students or office workers can quickly prepare their GABA tea in the morning and let it brew while commuting to office or school. Once there, the GABA tea can be enjoyed at leisure throughout the day.
